An amazing weekend for David Lang winning all three golds with doubles partner Felix Wright and mixed doubles with Sofia Bao.
29th April 2018 - the date we had been waiting for.
Walthamstow Hall's U14 school badminton team travelled to Milton Keynes to the finals (last six) of the 2018 School Team Championships following their domination of regional Kent and South East rounds of this competition.
AND THEY WON IT!!!
Sofia Bao and Holly Williams brought all their National tournament experience to the squad but could not have achieved this result without the other three team members: Hannah Sarshar, Annabel Sykes and Rosie Williamson who had only taken up badminton 3 years ago when they joined the school but have made enormous progress and made this result possible, with a little help from Jo obviously!
You can see from the photos how delighted Jo was to be back in her spiritual home (??) celebrating the success of this team. Hopefully the first of many.
21-22 April U13 English National Championships
GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A new age group National champion arrives! Sofia Bao wins the girls doubles title with partner Lucy Brierley and adds that to two bronzes in mixed (partner Ben Horseman) and singles.
Following this amazing weekend for Sofia she was contacted by the England junior pathway coaches as she is now on the junior programme.
21-22 April U17 English National Championships
Holly Williams Bronze medal in mixed doubles with partner Will Atkin. Both are still one year young in this age group so a solid result for them.
2018 ICT U18 Tournament: KENT ARE SECOND!!
An amazing achievement from the Kent U18 squad to finish 2nd in the country behind the ever strong Bucks team. Jo Muggeridge tells me that the last time Kent finished this high was when she was still eligible to play in the team (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Ie a VERY long time ago.
HBC members who were selected in the squad of 10 and participated in this event were:
Shivani Bhoombla, Mehar Bijral, Rory Easton, Emma Goddard, Sankalp Ramanen, Emily Tilman, Holly Williams
This team has also qualified into the top 8 to play off for the title in the U18 Shires league.
Sat/Sun 23/24th Feb Nottingham Senior Gold
Another golden weekend for Rory winning the singles and doubles at this senior gold event, helped along in the doubles by Matt Nottingham. Matt and Holly Williams also reached the semi final of the mixed doubles taking a set from the eventual winners Roe/Hopton who are full time players!

Annabel Sykes and Hannah Sarshar win their first Badminton England doubles medal taking bronze at the Sussex U15 Bronze tournament. Hopefully the first of many!

David Land and partner Felix Wright win gold at the East of London U15 Bronze.
Friday 2nd

This weekend the medals came flying through the door - great start to the year!!

2018
European U17 Championships, Prague, 25th - 29th November 2017
Team bronze for England already in the bag. On to the individual competition. Rory chose to concentrate on mixed and doubles this time hoping to stand on the podium in both disciplines. He won bronze with partner Harry Huang losing to the pre-tournament favourites from France who went on to win the final against the other English doubles pairing Ethan van Leuven and David Hong.
Then for the big one a mixed doubles final against Sebastien Groenbjerg and Clara Graversen who had won the mixed title the last time this age group competed at a European Championship in 2015.
The final did not disappoint and a tense third set was required to separate the two pairs.
Congratulations to all involved. A good week for the whole England U17 squad.
EUROPEAN U17 MIXED CHAMPIONS 2017
RORY EASTON and HOPE WARNER
Coverage is on utube - it was a very close final!!
18th 19th November Wimbledon Senior Gold.
Holly Williams and Matthew Nottingham win the mixed title only dropping one set on their way. The tournament organiser referred to Holly as "ice maiden" such was her composure in what must have been a very pressured situation. Huge thanks to Matthew Nottingham for partnering Holly - an invaluable experience for her.
DAVID LANG wins his first international singles title taking the U13 Trophy home from Edinburgh at the weekend as part of the East of Scotland Yonex Open Tournament. Well done David as the Scots never like to be beaten on their home turf (especially by someone from England!)
Final result England finish 9th. The only other European team to make the top 10 was France.
Images live from World Juniors Indonesia, England make it through to 9-12 play-off with 3-0 win over Belgium

Kent Junior Restricted 2017 9th/10th Sept 2017
A fantastic set of results from the Kent Junior Restricted this weekend despite an unfortunate clash with a Gold circuit event that took a few players away. Many young players were participating in their first Junior Restricted. Particular mention to the Bagshaw Family who only moved to Kent from Cumbria at the beginning of September but this did not hold them back! Several players won multiple titles including:
Holly Williams U18 singles and doubles
Emma Goddard U18 Mixed and doubles
Shivani Bhoombla U16 Singles and doubles
Prabhav Bhamidipati U16 Singles and doubles
Sofia Bao U14 Singles and doubles
Full Results here and also on the Wally Hall noticeboard. Well played everyone.
Eurasia Bulgarian Open 14th-17th August 2017
Then on to the Eurasia Bulgarian Open 2017 which the juniors were really just playing for experience against senior players. Rory and his mixed partner Hope Warner were drawn to play a Rio Olympian Stoeva (also recent European doubles finalist) in their first match. They surprised everyone by winning that one and the next so are now through to day 3 of the tournament and playing in the last 8.
Bulgarian Junior International 11th-13th August 2017
1st International news of the 17/18 season. Rory wins a surprise bronze at the Bulgarian Junior International (U19) knocking out 3rd seed Rossi in the last 16.
